Turn off your Captcha!!

Go check your spam settings and look under "friend requests" to see if people must solve a Captcha to add you as a friend. It amazes me how many train riders have those things turned on. Just now, on my backup I tried to add riders from the various trains that people were posting (including many Team Myspace related trains).

And I realized that so many riders have Captcha turned on, and it frustrated ME as I tried to add people...and I eventually gave up after only a few.

WHY THINK THAT OTHER BULLETIN READERS WILL BE ANY DIFFERENT?!

We would all get much better adds if every train owner reminded their riders (and any new riders that get added) the cost of turning Captcha on, and how it kills adds.

As you know, there are two distinct add links for every Myspace user. One begins with messaging.myspace.com and the other begins with collect.myspace.com . As I understand it, the former link automatically requires Captcha when you try to add a user with over a certain amount of friends (I THINK 10k), just as it is with comments with users over 10k. But with the latter link, when a user has turned off Captcha in their spam settings, it WON'T ask for it when you try to add them as a friend, even though the user you're trying to add might have a very high friend count (over 10k if I am right above).

Another thing to note is that the add link on the default contact table provided by Myspace uses the messaging.myspace.com link, not the other one. So, the reason your backup asks for Captcha when people try to add you might be because you're using the "messaging" add link, not the "collect" add link.

Try this experiment (this is only for Kate, so don't EVERYONE try it!! lol): delete me from your friends list and then try re-adding me again. First time around, use this link to add me (the "messaging" one):

http://messaging.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=invite.addfriend_confirm&statusCD=1&friendID=302557618

^ That one will require Captcha, even though I have it turned off in my spam settings. Then cancel that request and try adding me again through this second link:

http://collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=invite.addfriend_verify&friendID=302557618

^ That one will NOT require Captcha, as it is the good, "collect" link.

Final point worth noting: it seems that the default setting for spam settings under "friend request" is to have Captcha turned on UNLESS you turn it off. I was bored one night and created a dummy Myspace with only Tom on it. When I tried to add that account from my main, it asked me to solve a Captcha - even though it only had ONE friend!

In summarization,

messaging.myspace links are NEW and require captcha to add anyone over 10k no matter the settings,

and the old add links [collect.myspace] go according to your spam settings, (but still require captchas here-and-there when you are adding a lot of people, such as a train).

I still don't get it.....but yeah I'll turn off the Captcha!!!

Well, folks, as of today, what I said above in this thread is simply irrelevant. For Myspace how now disabled adding people through the old, collect.myspace.com link. Only the messaging.myspace.com link works now. And THAT link requires Captcha whenever you try to add anyone with over 10k friends - basically, all of us!

I hate to say it, but this might be the final nail in the coffin of whoring as we've come to know it. =/

i'll go back to posting vip on all my trains again... hopefully adds will be alot better.. i didnt even reach 100 requests yesterday

I do think its the bulletin problem people are having!!!

My final count as of now is....42 subtracts. Weird. I've been losing a lot today.
